Playing With Joy

Play with joy.
Work with joy.
Live with joy.

We all have good reasons to get grouchy; discouraging news, everyday stresses, health problems. Nevertheless, God can give us joy that transcends these conditions if we ask Him. We can have what Jesus called - My Joy.

Joy is a fruit of the Spirit of Jesus. So we must remember each morning to ask Him to help us - may I play with joy. Author Richard Foster said - to pray is to change. This is a great grace. How good of God to provide a path whereby our lives can be taken over by joy.

Practicing What We Preach

Living closely aligned to God by allowing the light of His Word to illuminate our paths keeps us from living blind. The result is a godly vision that gives clarity and focus to our days - our words and actions match up. When others observe this, the impression is not necessarily that of someone who knows everywhere they're going, but of someone who clearly knows who they're following.

God Looms Larger

We're tempted to believe that Goliath (our troubles) directs the story.
God is larger, however.
He dominates the story of our lives.

Sovereign Intervention

The King of Heaven knows all of our needs and sovereignly works out His plans in our lives.

He wisely provides what we need, not necessarily what we want. Let's rest in His sovereign, loving provision.

Loving God, Thank You that I can bring my needs to You. Help me to be content in whatever paths and provisions You choose.

RULE 24: KNOW WHAT YOU WANT LONG TERM

So what’s your game plan for your life? Don’t know? Haven’t ever thought about it? Most people don’t. And that’s why they fail. If you don’t have a plan, it is terribly easy not to stick to it and end up where the current takes you—a bit of flotsam adrift on the eddies of life. Very sad. The Rules Player has a plan—long term and short term.

Long-term plans can be very simple—qualify, move up, reach the top, retire, die. Or they can be sensible and useful. If you intend to have a career, it makes sense to study the game plan of your chosen industry. Obviously, you will have to build in a certain contingency for the unexpected and the “out-of-your control,” but the shrewd Rules Player will have already amended their long-term game plan well in advance having seen the indicators and read the signs. I spoke to someone recently who said, “Who would have predicted downsizing then?” The answer is anyone with the brains to have seen which way their business sector was going.

So, study your chosen industry and see the progression steps needed to make it to the position you want to occupy. Work out what you need to make those steps. Work out how many steps it takes—usually no more than about four—junior, middle, senior, executive. (If you think otherwise, don’t write in.)

Work out what you want from each step—gaining experience, handling responsibility, learning new skills, acquiring people management understanding, that sort of thing. You will notice that “increasing my earnings” just isn’t an option here—that is a foregone conclusion if you are a Rules Player anyway.

Work out how each step is made. This might be a transfer to another department, relocation to another branch, being offered a partnership, being invited to join the board, moving to another company, that sort of thing. Once you know how each step is made, it doesn’t take much to work out what you need to acquire that how.

You have to have an end game—the final goal. This can be as high or as extreme as you like—emperor of the world, prime minister, CEO, wealthiest person in the world, whatever. It is a dream and thus has no limits. If you set limits on your imagination, then you will have to settle for less than the best, less than perfect, less than you deserve. Ah, but you say we have to be realistic. Fine. Do that—be realistic. But Rules Players head for the very utmost of their dreams, and nothing less than the top is good enough.

IF YOU DON’T HAVE A PLAN, IT IS TERRIBLY EASY NOT TO STICK TO IT AND END UP WHERE THE CURRENT TAKES YOU.

Hanuabada

God, last time...I used to pray...to give me a job or a career...things that I would like to do...but now, in this different season...when I look back...yes, it was what I wanted to do (at that point of time)...but I actually do not have the skills nor the character for it...now in this new season...God, I pray that You give me a career, a portfolio, a job - that matches to my strength, weaknesses, skill set, personality, passion & interest...put me in a place where I can grow, where I can be a positive impact, where for Your will to be done...knowing that Grace brought me here, God will take care of everything (as a matter of fact, everything has already been taken care of by God), knowing that God's timing is always perfect, knowing that I will always (on every morning & every day) have God's love, faithfulness, goodness & favorability upon me. And I thank You God in advance for that. Amen!

Unseen Realities

Do you feel overpowered and helpless? Remember that God is in control and fights for you. He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.

Fear not for God is with us and for us.

Divine Diversions

Father, I praise You that in Your wisdom You know how to best arrange my life. Thank You for protecting me through Your detours!
