Lord Elgin and Some Stones of No Value

This year CNY – I find GMS to be very bad…both Marcus & I have a discussion about it…

We think that Miguel have lost the sense of direction for the whole division. Fewer deeper may work on certain categories but not 1 size fits all. GMS / HardLine / Bazaar need to have varieties, only certain items can do fewer deeper tactics.

A lot of missing items…for example, during the Spring Cleaning promotion…where are the 3M sponges, the pail, the laundry basket, the brooms & mops, the black bins…all not highlighted at all.

Most importantly, where are the storage boxes & the drawers…these are the key Hyper lines, you cannot buy online and cannot get at convenience store either…it’s a hyper's bread & butter…

Repetitive items from CNY 1 Leaflet all the way to CNY 4 leaflet…without a cooling period, balik-balik the same item…just show no varieties to the customers…lacking…

Appliance also not strong…apparel also not strong…1 bay 1 item; sure overstock…

Miguel & team just have to go and do some soul-searching together, discuss, re-group and re-strategize their battle plan…

If it’s me…

HouseHold >> re-highlight back all of the storage boxes & drawers and disposableware. Clean up the assortment for cookware & servingware; these are margin generator categories. Cut down the number of skus if necessary.

Home Furnishing & Furniture >> ensure home furnishing designs are up to date. Furniture; find a few key lines of utility shelfs, sofa bed, garment racks, mattress that can give a million dollar sales.

Stationery & Toys & DIY >> just make sure on stock availability, the sales will jalan one…

No more Press Ad…cool it down first.

Priority should be cleaning up the current assortment, returning the stocks, clearance, re-negotiating with the suppliers and focus on major events…

I know, it’s easier to say than done…hahaha…
